Family Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine at Aster MIMS offers comprehensive and continuous care to infants, children, adults and seniors. Physicians in the department are trained to manage total health care needs of a family, offering services such as health screenings, physical exams, women and child care, preventive check-ups, behavioural health, counselling and immunizations. The department promises an overall personalised care for patients, practicing a team approach to care.

Originally hailing from the culturally vibrant Thrissur, Dr Bijayraj is based in Mumbai and did his MBBS (Open, Merit) from Dhule, Maharashtra. He did his DNB in Family Medicine in MIMS Hospital, Calicut, Kerala. He later qualified as a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP-Int), and Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences. He has been involved with the specialty of Family Medicine and its resurrection in India since 2007.

He has been involved with the specialty of Family Medicine and its resurrection in India since 2007.

After a short stint in Mumbai, and after having served for sometime in the interiors of Kerala, he is now in-charge of Family Medicine training and related activities in MIMS-Calicut. He is a member of the Academy of Family Physicians of India (AFPI), and founder-member and President-Elect of the Kerala Chapter of the AFPI. He has been successfully guiding DNB Family Medicine trainees across the country since the last several years.

His areas of sub-specialised training and interests include Diabetology, Geriatric medicine, Palliative care, School Health Services and public health education activities through various channels including mainstream print and visual media. Along with the Dept of Palliative medicine, he facilitated the formation and implementation of the MIMS Home care services.

He is actively involved in research in diabetology, school health and behavioral disorders in children and has two publications in indexed international journals.

Off work, his interests lie in writing, traveling, food, satire, and like most Indian males, cricket.
