The department of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging at Aster MIMS uses safe, painless and cost-effective techniques to image the functions of various organs and treat diseases. The department offers a wide range of imaging and therapeutic procedures under nuclear medicine and molecular imaging for various specialities. This branch of diagnostics uses small amount of radioactive material or tracer to diagnose the problems with the structure or functions of internal organs like lungs, heart, and liver and so on. The department with state-of-the-art infrastructure and skilled professionals allow quick and accurate diagnosis of various medical as well as surgical conditions. Dr. Rijju Gopinath is the Sr. Consultant and Head of Department of Nuclear Medicine in Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS), Calicut since the inception of the department in 2003. He has obtained his MBBS degree from Trivandrum Medical College. He started his Nuclear Medicine career from CMC,Vellore. He did his post graduation in Nuclear Medicine from TATA Memorial Hospital & BARC, Mumbai and obtained DNB from Hinduja National Hospital & Research Center, Mumbai.

Prior to joining MIMS he was working as a consultant in Rugveda Health Care, Ahmedabad which was the maiden Nuclear Medicine facility of Gujarat state. He has many scientific presentations in various national and international meetings of Nuclear Medicine and other medical specialities to his credit. He was an invited faculty and judge for the prestigious British Nuclear Medicine Society Annual Meetings in 2013 and 2016. In 2018 he was an invited faculty for the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology Meeting at Melbourne. He was awarded Fellowships in PET CT from Seoul National University Hospital, South Korea and Zurich University Hospital, Switzerland.

He pursued his MD in Nuclear Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi with a career span of 6 years of experience in PET/CT oncology. His areas of special interests are PET/CT (Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology), Nuclear Cardiology (MPI- Myocardial Perfusion Imaging), Radio- Iodine Therapy (I-131 for Cancer Thyroid, Graves disease, Toxic Nodular Goiter & AFTN), Bone Scan, and Renal Scans (DTPA & DMSA).

Dr.Sellam has published about 95 research articles in various indexed international journals till date. He has been awarded the ‘AIIMS Excellence Award- 2012’ and the prestigious ‘Asian Young Investigator Award-2014’ by the ‘Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine’ for his contribution in the field of research at a very young age. He has also presented papers in international conferences conducted at Lyon, France and Osaka, Japan. Adding to his credits, he is one among the first five Indians and first twenty five young Asian Nuclear Medicine physicians to have been certified as a Fellow of the Asian Nuclear Medicine Board (FANMB).
